Armed attack on military car kills 1 soldier in Siirt

Gendarme Bahtiyar Yalınca was killed by fire coming from Kurdistan Workers’ Party terrorists.

One soldier was killed and another was injured after outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorists opened fire on a military vehicle they were riding in on Thursday in the southeastern province of Siirt.

Pvt. Bahtiyar Yalınca and noncommissioned officer Salih Sağ, both of the gendarmerie, were patrolling in the center of Siirt’s Pervari district when the attack took place, at about 9 p.m. Yalınca was killed in the incident. The gendarmerie has launched an operation to catch the attackers.

A funeral ceremony was held for Yalınca at the Siirt Third Gendarmerie Command Brigade. Şanlıurfa Governor Nuri Okutan, who was in the city for an official visit, Siirt Deputy Governor Hamdi Üncü and several other officials attended the ceremony, which was closed to the press. Yalınca’s body was sent to his hometown of Tavşanlı in Kütahya province following the ceremony. In the meantime, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sent a telegraph to offer his condolences for the death of the soldier, also wishing the injured soldier a quick recovery. In another terrorist attack on Wednesday, one soldier was killed and three others were injured in the Uludere district of Şırnak province.
