Dilli, bus attendant Betül Taner and passengers Kadir Özer, Ahmet Bozkurt, Ahmet Duran and Naime Soylu died in the accident, while 31 others sustained injuries. News reports revealed that both a Canadian and a Japanese citizen were on the bus. Both are in the hospital in critical condition. Durmuş Kahraman, the driver of the truck, was not injured in the accident.
Arriving at the scene, a rescue team from the Düzce Municipality removed the injured people trapped inside the bus, and ambulances rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, including Düzce Atatürk State Hospital, Düzce University’s Medical School Hospital and the private Hayri Sivrikaya Hospital.
An ambulance driven by Harun Danacı overturned on the same road due to a slippery surface while it was returning from the scene of the accident to its base. Three passengers, including Danacı and two nurses, were injured. The ambulance was not carrying any casualties as additional ambulances had been called to the scene. The ambulance personnel were taken to a hospital in another ambulance.
