BTK: New payment system benefits mobile phone users

29 March 2010 /TODAY’S ZAMAN
Tayfun Acarer, chairman of Turkey’s Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK), stated on Sunday that switching from credits to lira in prepaid mobile services will have remarkable benefits for mobile phone users.
Acarer spoke with the Anatolia news agency about a new regulation that will require all telephone operators to switch from mobile phone credits to lira on April 1.

“It is a very important change for all mobile phone users because it is a customer-friendly application. If mobile phone users want to have an idea about details of their mobile phone conversation, they are able to access these data easily thanks to the latest regulation. People will have an opportunity to see how much they spend, and this will provide more transparent service,” Acarer said, underlining that some European Union countries have already switched to this method.

Prepaid GSM subscribers currently have to add 100 credits at least once every three months so that their lines will not be blocked or canceled. Some operators close subscribers’ lines to outbound calls if they fail to load 100 credits in three months, while others cancel the line completely. Acarer said with the new regulation, prepaid subscribers will be able to keep their lines active provided that they load TL 5 once every three months.
