Belgian premier to visit Ankara next week
Leterme and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, will discuss Turkey’s bid to join the European Union, efforts to combat terrorism and other areas of cooperation as Belgium will assume the EU term presidency in the second half of 2010, the Prime Ministry said in a statement on Monday. Bilateral relations and the Cyprus issue will also be on the agenda of the talks. The Belgian prime minister will in addition have talks with President Abdullah Gül.
Leterme became Belgium’s prime minister in November for a second time after his predecessor, Herman Van Rompuy, was appointed as the EU’s first president.
