This is the first meeting between foreign ministers of NATO member countries under the leadership of Secretary-general Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who faces tough challenges amid a rising lack of security in Afghanistan and NATO candidate countries.
The leading items on the agenda will be the requests from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro to receive a Membership Action Plan (MAP), missile defense systems, Afghanistan, NATO-Russia relations and the preparation of the new NATO Strategic Concept.
Other meetings with ministers of foreign affairs will include the NATO-Ukraine Commission, the NATO-Georgia Commission, the NATO-Russia Council, and a meeting of the NAC with contributors of troops in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
Davutoğlu is said to be holding meetings with some of his counterparts on the sidelines of the gathering. On the first night of the two-day meeting, Davutoğlu will attend a dinner hosted by Belgian Foreign Minister Yves Leterme.
