Pilots survive military plane crash

24 July 2009 /TODAY'S ZAMAN WITH WIRES
Two military pilots survived the crash of their F-4 military fighter jet yesterday in the eastern province of Malatya. In a statement released after the incident, Malatya Governor Mehmet Ulvi Saran noted both pilots were slightly injured and taken to a military hospital for observation.
Hekimhan district's governor, Ramazan Fani, who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, told the Anatolia news agency that the wreckage of the plane had caught fire and was engulfed in flames, adding that they had not been informed of the identities of the pilots, while Ali Kaya, the mayor of Yazıhan -- where the plane crashed -- said the fire had started in the plane's fuel tank, which was dislodged and ruptured in the crash.
