Now that the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) has everything under control in the country, what are we supposed to think when we hear that new documents -- in which some businessmen, policemen and bureaucrats were categorized in 2011 and 2012 according to information obtained about them -- have been found at the Düzce Gendarmerie Command?
The right of headscarved women to education is still being ignored, too. A recent report by the Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV) has revealed that the ban on headscarves is still in place in many fields, not only in universities. Then, we should ask: Is being in power for 10 years not enough to become a powerful party and get rid of every totalitarian and anti-democratic tendency? Yes, it is true that the AK Party has improved Turkey’s infrastructure a great deal. But can we say that there has been as much of an improvement in the superstructure?
