Turkey condemns series of bomb attacks across Iraq
Turkey has strongly condemned bomb attacks that hit cities and towns across Iraq on Thursday, declaring solidarity with the Iraqi people in the fight against terrorism.
“We strongly condemn the bomb attacks that took place yesterday [April 19] in different cities of Iraq, including the capital Baghdad and Kirkuk, and which caused many deaths and injuries. We wish mercy upon those who lost their lives in the attacks, convey our condolences to the bereaved families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to those wounded,” a statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
“On this occasion, we affirm once again that Turkey will maintain its solidarity with the brotherly people of Iraq in its fight against terrorism,” the statement continued. More than 20 bombs hit cities and towns across Iraq on Thursday, killing at least 36 and wounding more than 100, raising fears of sectarian strife in a country keen to show it can now maintain security.
