Turkey produced 16 mln barrels of crude oil in 2011, Yıldız says
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yıldız has announced that Turkey produced 16 million barrels of crude oil and 793 million cubic meters of natural gas in 2011.
In a response to a written parliamentary question, Yıldız stated, “Although Turkey's crude oil and natural gas production vary from year to year, domestic production accounted for 7 to 9 percent of oil consumption and 2 percent of natural gas consumption."
Yıldız recalled that since 1954, domestic and foreign companies are allowed to carry out oil exploration and production projects after obtaining exploration licenses from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, according to Law 6329 on oil.
"As a result of the oil exploration and production projects that have been carried out from 1954 to 2011, 4,103 oil exploration and production wells have been dug up, and 117 crude oil wells and 49 natural gas fields were discovered," Yıldız explained, adding that at the end of 2011 almost 16.5 million barrels of crude oil were extracted from 1,180 wells and 793 million cubic meters of natural gas were produced from 283 natural gas fields.
