Retired general allegedly attempts to kill himself

6 November 2010 /TODAY’S ZAMAN
The injuries of a retired major general, who was found to have been shot in the chest, are suspected to be self-inflicted in an apparent suicide attempt.

Sixty-year-old retired Maj. Gen. Ali Nihat Özeyranlı was staying at a facility for military members in the southern province of Adana. Employees at the facility entered Özeyranlı’s room upon hearing a gunshot and found him injured on Friday. Özeyranlı was taken to Adana Numune Hospital, where his condition is considered to be critical.

Özeyranlı was promoted to the rank of major general on Aug. 30, 2000 after serving in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s (KKTC) Security Forces Command between 1998 and 2000. He later became a partner in a petrochemical company in Adana. Özeyranlı generally resided in İstanbul while visiting Adana occasionally.
