The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation's (TRT) Kurdish-language TV station has begun transmission tests. TRT 6 will broadcast on a continuous basis starting Jan. 1, 2009. Of course, this channel will be discussed with reference to its benefits and disadvantages.
And it should be. But these discussions should be done by those who are familiar with this. For instance, a newspaper has stressed that those who appear on the screen will be on a target list [to be attacked]. This is outrageous. This is such a delicate balance and difficult to get right. Let us not be unfair to the a few good guys who are in charge of this scheme. We should pay attention to what we do and what we say, considering that there are certain circles ready to sabotage or undermine this scheme. There is no need to exaggerate this. Turkey is trying to make things right. TRT broadcasts in Kurdish today; tomorrow, it will broadcast in other languages including Arabic, Armenian and Farsi because Turkey is the place of peace in this region. Turkey is the only power that will extend help and assistance to the needy.
