In order for Turkey to be normalized, it is mandatory that the CHP be normalized, as well. The CHP cannot simply be defined by the votes it picks up in elections.
Any transformation that the CHP's mentality passes through is of critical importance for Turkish political life, as the CHP sits on important nerve points for both the society and the state. While it is true that the CHP has not been in power for years now, and that it will be difficult from this point onward for them to enjoy any sort of strong administrative power, it is also true that whatever stance the CHP embraces does have an influence on the transformation and development taking place in Turkey. Up until today, the influence held by the CHP has generally been of a negative character, and has worked mostly to slow down change here. As the main opposition political party, a positive contribution by the CHP would have been a great advantage for Turkey during this period.
