Turkey's foreign minister said late on Monday that Turkey-EU relations would continue their normal course during France's term in the bloc's rotating presidency.

France will take over the EU presidency today for a period of six months.

Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said that Turkey expected its accession negotiations to continue in a transparent way in line with existing agreements with the EU during the French presidency.

"We have received messages from France that its presidency will be a normal one, and this means that our negotiation process will proceed normally and without any limping," Babacan told reporters after a joint press conference with Luxembourg's foreign minister, Jean Asselborn, in Ankara.

Babacan said the EU would see how important Turkey is and how much Turkey can contribute to the union as it comes to know more about Turkey.
