Vodafone has appointed its Turkey CEO Serpil Timuray as head of its Africa, Middle East and Asia-Pacific (AMAP) operations, according to a press release dated Oct. 3.
Timuray's post in Turkey will be filled by Vodafone Turkey's current consumer business unit vice president, Gökhan Öğüt, as of Nov. 1. Timuray will replace former AMAP region CEO Nick Read and will report directly to Vodafone Chief Executive Vittorio Colao. AMAP is one of Vodafone's two main administrative regions.
Colao stated in the press release that he believes Timuray, who has been one of the most successful leaders at Vodafone with strong operational and commercial experience, will continue to succeed in her new post.
Timuray is a graduate of one of Turkey's most prominent universities, Boğaziçi University, and holds a degree in business administration. She started her career working in the marketing department of Procter & Gamble in 1991, then joined Danone SA in 1999. She then moved from the position of CEO of Danone SA to become CEO of Vodafone Turkey in 2008.
