The US Ambassador to Turkey said on Wednesday that there are no plans for US President Barack Obama to make his first foreign visit after the election to Turkey.
“As an ambassador here, I'd love to see him come to Turkey of course,” Francis J. Ricciardone said in response to rumors that the re-elected Obama is expected to make a visit to Turkey soon.
“I'm sure he did not have any plans for a foreign travel itinerary before the election results came in,” he said, stressing that the president will take time to get some rest after heavy campaigning.
Obama paid a landmark two-day visit to Turkey in April 2009 as part of a European tour and also as the last leg of his maiden trip on the world stage as president. It was also his first official trip to a predominantly Muslim country as president.
