“As an ambassador here, I'd love to see him come to Turkey of course,” Francis J. Ricciardone said in response to rumors that the re-elected Obama is expected to make a visit to Turkey soon.
“I'm sure he did not have any plans for a foreign travel itinerary before the election results came in,” he said, stressing that the president will take time to get some rest after heavy campaigning.
Obama paid a landmark two-day visit to Turkey in April 2009 as part of a European tour and also as the last leg of his maiden trip on the world stage as president. It was also his first official trip to a predominantly Muslim country as president.
