Turkish journalists and media managers met at an iftar (fast-braking meal) organized by Bahçeşehir University at the university's Beşiktaş Campus in İstanbul on Tuesday.
The guest of honor at the iftar was Culture and Tourism Minister Ertuğrul Günay. Other people including academics and deputies also attended the meal.
Günay voiced his dissatisfaction with the general news coverage of culture and arts in Turkey to the media managers at the meal. Saying that the media does not pay enough attention to the news of culture and arts, Günay added: “Tourism is important for Turkey. Turkey is now in the top 10 countries for tourist visits. We have been trying to emphasize the Turkish culture and traditional architecture while making advertisements for tourists. However, the media does not give enough importance to tourism. We need more people who know more about Turkey in the media sector since Turkey must be described by those who hold our values and understand the importance of our country.”
