Turkish PM shows support for İstanbul's bid for 2020 Olympics

31 July 2012 /AP WITH TODAYSZAMAN.COM
The Turkish prime minister has said that choosing İstanbul to host the 2020 Olympics would amount to a message of peace and counter claims of the so-called clash of civilizations.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said his government is “strongly” backing İstanbul's fifth bid to host the games and that selecting the city, which straddles Europe and Asia, would strengthen the alliance between differing cultures and religions. Erdoğan spoke during a televised address to the nation on Tuesday.
