Turkish security forces have dealt a heavy blow to the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in large-scale operations conducted in Hakkari's Şemdinli district, according to sources close to the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK). The military has destroyed depots of food, munitions and medicine belonging to the terrorist group in Şemdinli and killed a total of 39 PKK terrorists since the operations began last week.

The Turkish military launched the large-scale operation in the area last week when PKK terrorists blocked the road of a village in the region and interrogated villagers. Troops from neighboring battalions were dispatched to the region. The security forces have continued to open fire from land and air at PKK targets in the rural parts of Yiğitler village in Şemdinli and in the Goman Mountains. In addition, Turkish fighter jets shelled targets of the terrorist organization in the Hakurk and Avaşin-Basyan areas in northern Iraq. Cobra and Sikorsky helicopters were also used in the operation.

Sources close to the military who wished to remain anonymous told Today’s Zaman that walkie-talkie conversations between the terrorists suggest that the PKK was in a state of panic in the aftermath of the military operation. They also said the PKK was hoping to kick off an uprising in southeastern Turkey similar to the Arab Spring and that the Turkish military had ruined its efforts with the operation.

In the meantime, security forces refused to allow some members of the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and members of civil society groups to enter the military operations area in Şemdinli, citing security reasons. Some BDP members, including Hakkari deputy Esat Canan, Van deputy Özdal Üçer, Hakkari Mayor Fadıl Bedirhanoğlu, Yüksekova Mayor Ercan Bora and provincial chairmen of the party, accompanied by members of some civil society groups, had wanted to enter the area to observe. Security forces, however, denied them entry, saying the operation against the terrorist PKK was still under way.

The BDP members filed a criminal complaint with the Şemdinli Public Prosecutor’s Office against the security forces for not allowing them to enter the area.

kurdo, that's where you're wrong! First, they aren't "guerillas", they're terrorists. Second, how are they going to "retaliate by killing an equal amount if not more"? When have the PKK ever been able to do this? It's well-known that for a terrorist group their caustalty ratio is disastrous. Fo...

Allowing religious figures like Ömer Döngeloğlu to preach to uneducated Turks does more harm than the PKK! There is a silent movement in Turkey that is more effective than the PKK and that is the Islamic underground movement. Modern day Turkey which has fought for centuries to become a european styl...

zara, give them first-rate weapons like you do to kurdish terrorists and they won't have to resort to attacking those types of places. Also, it's their goal that makes them freedom fighters. They have been living on that land for thousands of years until a bunch of Central/East Europeans stole it ...

ronen, trials? Are you out of your mind? I think you have us confused with the US which goes around willy-nilly intentionally murdering civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan. When we kill someone, they are definitely a terrorist. Or do you have another explanation as to why they are roaming around w...

Baran the Aegean Ethiopian (greek) or i. sraeli, "kurdish autonomy" is an insane joke that has never existed in history. It will not benefit the Turks as it is a goal of foreign imperialists to weaken Turkiye after their greek and armenian terrorists failed to acheive their goals in the 1920's. It...

Baran the Aegean Ethiopian (greek) or i. sraeli, what are you babbling about? "400 billions of dollars"? Who are you kidding? The cost of this confilict is the cost of a German assault rifle X 30,000. That is all. Turkiye has not made any extraordinate military spending that it would not have o...

All I can say is "this made me happy" and content, knowing its a blow to the PKK and their supporters. Interesting how the BDP wanted to get in, to my thinking, pass on observed information back to the PKK. The military handle this correctly. As for comments for rebutting the Turkish military, it ju...

The BDP are nothing but a voice piece for the PKK. They should have been banned long ago. Every Turk knows they talk politics during the day, and run to the mountains to carry out their bloody campaigns against innnocent civilians by night.

So the Turkish forces killed 39 today, the guerrilla retaliate by killing an equal amount if not more and the cycle of violence, death and social/economical impediment continues in Turkish Kurdistan. Where does it STOP?
Kurdo
dont u mean freedom fighters? I forgot, HAMAS, the ones that blow up buses, pizzerias, discos, restaurants, those are the true freedom fighters, according to Erdogan and his Turkish fans.
zara

The conflict has indeed claimed thousands of lives and around 400 billions of dollars since 1984 whilst close to 300 thousand people have died in traffic accidents on Turkish roads since the late 1950's ....... And the Turkish state is still determined to deny the Kurdish citizens basic rights and ...
