According to a recent news report, the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) is about to present a new reform package regarding the system of local administration for discussion.
As a matter of fact, it is high time, and possibly even a little bit late, that we reinforced local administrations in Turkey. I have been saying repeatedly that such a reform will be an important and positive way of making Kurds want to voluntarily and peacefully live together with Turks. That’s why it has been high time for local administrative reform for decades, but it has never been as urgent as it is now. This is because these days scenarios of “a large, independent Kurdistan state will be established” have appeared yet again. These days, the AK Party bringing in a reform that will give the Kurds more of a voice in the administrative system of the predominantly Kurdish regions will surely influence Kurds in Turkey in quite a positive way.
