Experienced players out of team roster

To the surprise of many, several regular stars, including Orlando Magic forward Hidayet Türkoğlu as well as Kerem Tunçeri, Ömer Onan, Ömer Aşık and Kerem Gönlüm, were excluded from the roster. Other regulars, including Cenk Akyol, Sinan Güler, Emir Preldzic, Ender Arslan and Semih Erden, were invited to join the roster. The choice of players shows that basketball authorities are seeking to rejuvenate the national team. With its star-studded squad, the national team has been remarkably successful in recent years, winning a silver medal in the 2010 World Basketball Championship held in İstanbul.
