President Abdullah Gül told the press on Friday that he will be meeting with Semra Özal, the wife of eighth Turkish President Turgut Özal, whose suspicious death 19 years ago was the subject of a recent investigation undertaken by the presidential palace.
After the Friday prayer, President Gül answered questions from reporters. He said the State Audit Institution (DDK) has prepared a detailed report on Özal's death and that he will be meeting with Semra Özal on Tuesday.
On Wednesday the DDK, part of the President's Office, announced its findings regarding allegations that Özal might have been poisoned. The report found it beyond any reasonable explanation that there were no fully equipped ambulances or medical teams available at the president's official residence on the day of his death. The report also says the failure to conduct an autopsy on the president's body raises doubts. The report called on prosecutors to act and re-open the case of Özal's death.
