Turks spent an average of TL 238 on domestic travel in 2011, which marks a 13 percent rise when compared with the figures of 2010, according to the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat).
TurkStat released the results of the “Households Domestic Tourism Survey,” on Tuesday. According to the results of the survey, Turks spent a total of TL 15.6 billion on domestic travel in 2011. For 77.1 percent, the reason for domestic travel was to visit relatives and 8.4 percent said for vacation, while 7.7 percent said they travelled for health reasons. In the last quarter of 2011, 13.3 million domestic journeys took place and TL 2.8 million was spent on these trips. People travelling at this time of the year spent an average of TL 216.
