Tüzmen: I would have relegated 8
Former Trade Minister Kürşad Tüzmen, whose love for sport is well known, has said he would relegate the eight teams implicated in a match-fixing scandal to a lower division if he became the president of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF).
Tüzmen said he withdrew his candidacy ahead of the elections for the top position of the TFF last February because Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, an ardent Fenerbahçe fan, did not want him to be the president. Fenerbahçe is at the center of the match-fixing allegations, and its chairman, Aziz Yıldırım, is behind bars due to his suspected involvement in the rigging activities. “Mr. Prime Minister did not want Fenerbahçe to be relegated because he is a Fenerbahçe fan,” he said on Samanyolu Haber TV on Wednesday.
