The Ankara police seized 87,200 packs of cigarettes in an anti-smuggling operation that involved the search of a fuel tanker on the Samsun-Ankara highway on Monday.
The Ankara Police Department's Anti-smuggling and Organized Crime Unit searched the fuel tanker after they received a tip off that illegal cigarettes and alcohol were being transported from eastern cities to the west in passenger buses and fuel tankers. The police seized many illegal cigarette packs that had been secreted in various parts of the tanker in the raid and detained four people.
In a similar development, the police seized 430 bottles of illegal alcohol in a raid on a house in the Yenimahalle district of Ankara on Monday.
