Sixteen athletes from Turkey learned on Wednesday who they will take on in the European Senior Taekwondo Championships, which kicked off on Thursday in Manchester, England.
In the men’s division, silver-medal winner at the 2004 Olympic Games and three-time World Champion Bahri Tanrıkulu was matched with Azerbaijani Aydın Bahmalov in the over 87-kilogram weight class. In the 54-kilogram weight class, Mehmet Dolaş and Spaniard Adrian Cifuentes Diepa will face off. Last year, Dolaş took first place in the Spanish Open Taekwondo Championships. In the women’s division, Rukiye Yıldırım will take on the winner of the match between Sondess Ben Tahar from France and Great Britain’s Jemma Johnson in the 46-kilogram weight class. In the 62-kilogram weight class, Dürdane Altunel will compete against Azerbaijani Sabina Mikayilova. The championships will end on May 6.
