Bursaspor is used to bashing opponents in the Ziraat Turkish Cup, but it itself has been getting bashed in the Super Final Europa League playoffs. And history repeated itself on Sunday.
Bursaspor crushed Eskişehirspor 3-0 in their Turkish Cup semifinals at İzmir’s Atatürk Stadium on Wednesday to advance to the final against Fenerbahçe.
But the same Bursaspor was defeated 2-0 away by Eskişehirspor in week three of their Europa League group playoffs at Eskişehir’s Atatürk Stadium on Sunday.
Goals by Brazilian center back Diego Angelo de Oliveira in the 31st and another in the 87th by Portuguese midfielder Vitor Hugo Gomes Passos -- aka Pele -- gave Ersun Yanal’s Eskişehirspor a well-deserved victory and catapulted them up to the top of the standings.
Bursaspor had beaten Sivasspor 4-1 in the quarterfinals and eliminated them from the Turkish Cup on April 12. But Bursaspor was crushed 4-0 away days later by Sivasspor in their Europa League group opener. Remaining matches at a glance:
