Turkish scriptwriter, actress Meral Okay passes away

Famous Turkish scriptwriter and actress Meral Okay, who had been receiving cancer treatment, passed away at the age of 53 on Monday.

Born in 1959, Okay acted in many Turkish movies and TV serials. She is best known as the producer of the TV series İkinci Bahar (Second Spring), broadcast between 1998 and 2001. Most recently she had been in the news as the scriptwriter of a historical drama on the life of Ottoman Sultan Süleyman I, Muhteşem Yüzyıl (Magnificent Century).

Okay had been suffering from lung cancer. Her husband, actor Yaman Okay, also died of cancer at the age of 41 in 1993.
