Kayserispor became the last team to qualify for the quarterfinals in the Turkish Cup after defeating İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor 1-0 at Kadir Has Stadium.
Kayserispor was matched with Fenerbahçe in the quarters as a result of Friday’s draws, one of the toughest they could pick as the İstanbul giant has been yearning for the Turkish Cup since 1983, the last time they won it. Australian midfielder James Troisi scored the only goal of the match in the 49th minute. Kayserispor coach Shota Arveladze said after the game that they deserved to win and advance to the quarterfinals. The Turkish Cup competition has seen many surprises this season. Galatasaray, Beşiktaş and Trabzonspor have all been eliminated in the fourth round. Out of the “Big Four,” only Fenerbahçe was able to make it to the top eight. The other draws are: Sivasspor vs. Bursaspor, Eskişehirspor vs. Medical Park Antalyaspor and Kardemir Karabükspor vs. Boluspor.
