The list in Forbes Turkey magazine ranked Çukurova Holding Chairman Mehmet Emin Karamehmet second with a $2.9 billion fortune and Yıldız Holding Chairman Murat Ülker third, with assets worth $2.8 billion. In the listing, Doğuş Group Chairman Ferit Şahenk ranked fourth along with Semahat Arsel from the Koç family, one of the wealthiest families in Turkey, with $2.6 billion in total wealth. Koç Holding Honorary Chairman Rahmi Koç followed them with a fortune of $2.5 billion. Filiz Şahenk with $2.4 billion, Şarık Tara with $2.3 billion, Suna Kıraç with $2.1 billion and Ali Ağaoğlu with $2.1 billion were also placed among the top 10 in the list.
Speaking to reporters, Forbes Turkey Editor-in-Chief Burçak Güven said the calculations don't include cash ownership and were only determined by looking at the individual corporate shares, property ownership and art collections. She noted the figures are based on strict calculations and the numbers reflect the least amount of their wealth. The figures demonstrate a decline in total wealth of the 100 richest people in Turkey to $55.3 billion in 2012 from $64.7 billion in 2011.
