The National Intelligence Organization (MİT) has appealed a recent move by an İstanbul prosecutor to summon MİT Undersecretary Hakan Fidan to testify in an ongoing probe into a Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) affiliated organization, saying the prosecutor needs the permission of the Prime Ministry to do so.

İstanbul Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Fikret Seçen on Wednesday said MİT Undersecretary Fidan, his predecessor Emre Taner and MİT Deputy Undersecretary Afet Güneş were summoned to testify in the ongoing investigation into the Kurdish Communities Union (KCK), which Turkish prosecutors say is a group that controls the PKK and other affiliated groups.

Seçen has said the three were summoned to deliver their testimonies over the phone, adding that they were invited to the Beşiktaş Courthouse on Thursday. However, he refused to respond to questions on whether the three were suspects in the case or not.

Amidst controversy whether the three were going to comply with the call or not, MİT appealed the prosecutor's move on Thursday. MİT said in a brief statement that the prosecutor's office should have asked the permission of the prime minister for such a move.

Meanwhile, Fidan on Thursday met with President Abdullah Gül at Çankaya presidential palace.

Deputy Undersecretary Güneş represented the intelligence organization at the meeting. Senior PKK leaders Mustafa Karasu, Sabit Ok and Zübeyr Aydar met with government representatives under the mediation of a representative from an unknown “coordinator country.”

The KCK investigation, in which Fidan and two others will testify, started in December 2009, and a large number of Kurdish politicians, including several mayors from the BDP, have been detained. The suspects are accused of various crimes, including membership in a terrorist organization, aiding and abetting a terrorist organization and attempting to destroy the country's unity and integrity. BDP officials have said the investigation is the government's way of suppressing BDP politicians, denying any links between the suspects and any terrorist organizations.

its obvious the PKK and any one of the many "terrorist" organizations out there were established and directed by elements in the Turkish state. the real issue is not the PKK or the KCK or any other noodle you pick from this toxic alphabet soup made in Turkey. All this is only about keeping the absur...

Me: USA is negotiating with the talibans: the ones who supported Al-qaida. I think it is the right thing to do if it benefits american interests. I think some forces which do ot like Mr Fidan pushed the button.

I am sure the prosecutor already has all the permissions he needs. Turkey seems to be just like America in this one regard. Right now in the USA if you speak against any of Obama's opinions then you are a racist, so I guess in Turkey if you even utter any information about the PKK then you are one...
