Temiz’s 73rd birthday brings African rhythm masters to İstanbul

8 February 2012 / ,
Turkish percussion master Okay Temiz’s birthday will once again turn into a huge onstage celebration of rhythm this weekend in İstanbul when the 10th of The Day of Rhythm concerts is held on Saturday at İstanbul’s TİM Maslak Show Center.

Held every year on Feb. 11 since 2002, The Day of Rhythm concerts annually mark the birthday of the internationally acclaimed fusion jazz percussionist Temiz, who is best known for his extensive collection of self-made ethnic and electronic rhythm instruments. At this year’s event, marking Temiz’s 73rd birthday, the innovative musician will be joined onstage by African masters of percussion Doudou N’diaye Rose, Yamar Thiam, Babacar Seck, Saliou Mbaye and Mamadou Gueye, the Anatolia news agency reported earlier in the week.

Turkish musicians Yahya Dai, Çağdaş Oruç and Ebru Ayarcı and the 80-strong Okay Temiz Rhythm Studio group will also be onstage for the concert, set to start at 8 p.m. Tickets, with prices ranging from TL 34-78, are available at www.biletix.com. İstanbul Today’s Zaman with wires
