“Eugenie and Abdülaziz” by İsmail Acar
8 February 2012 / ,
The Çırağan Palace Kempinski Art Gallery in İstanbul is presenting a selection of works by renowned Turkish painter İsmail Acar this month on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the artist’s career.

Titled “Aşk” (Love), the retrospective goes on display on Thursday and is slated to continue until March 28. The exhibit brings together a 60-piece selection from Acar’s previous work, as well as several of his new works in which he depicts the historic Çırağan Palace in İstanbul’s Ortaköy.

Acar depicts French Empress Eugénie’s six-day visit to İstanbul in 1869 for six days, during which she met with Ottoman Sultan Abdülaziz and visited the Çırağan Palace’s hamam section, which was being constructed, in his new paintings in the show.

The art gallery is located on the entrance floor of the Çırağan Palace Kempinski in Ortaköy and is open every day. İstanbul Today’s Zaman
