Tickets for !f İstanbul independent film festival go online

3 February 2012 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
Early bird tickets for this year’s !f İstanbul AFM International Independent Film Festival went on sale Friday as the city’s film buffs prepared for a 10-day indie marathon in four movie theaters from Feb. 16-26.

The discount tickets will be available through Sunday midnight via the website Mybilet.com.

The festival’s 2012 edition will present a selection of the latest films from independent directors as well as award-winning festival favorites from prestigious fests such as Toronto, Cannes, Sundance and London, among others.

Showings will take place at the AFM Fitaş Beyoğlu, Maçka G-Mall, AFM İstinyePark and AFM Caddebostan theaters. Ticket sales at AFM Caddebostan and AFM Fitaş will begin Feb. 11 and at AFM İstinyePark and G-Mall on Feb. 18.

The George Clooney family drama “The Descendants,” “Bellflower,” which premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, cancer comedy “50/50” and Todd Solondz’s award-winning “Dark Horse” are among the eagerly anticipated titles of the festival’s Hit Films selection.

The festival’s !f Music program will offer movie buffs a musical treat as innovative British musician Michael Nyman will descend on the city to present his first film, “NYman With A Movie Camera.” British actor Rupert Everett will also be in town to collect the festival’s first “Yeni Bir Dünya İçin Sinema” (Cinema for a New World) prize in a ceremony on Feb. 26.

A collaboration between !f and Robert Redford’s Sundance Institute that was launched last year is continuing at the 2012 festival with a selection of recent Sundance entries offered in the section Spotlight on Sundance.

This year, the festival will also travel to the Turkish capital from March 1-4 and İzmir from March 2-4 with a selection of hit films from the main lineup. For more details and the full program, check the fest’s website at www.ifistanbul.com.
