Man reported to be Turk victim of fatal shooting in London

2 February 2012 / KADİR UYSALOĞLU, LONDON
A person believed to be of Turkish origin was killed in an armed attack in London on Wednesday, British media reported on Thursday.

Unidentified assailants shot a man, reportedly a Turk, to death at the Turnpike Lane subway and bus station in Langham Road on Wednesday afternoon.

The name of the victim has yet to be released by British authorities.

The street where the incident occurred was closed by police to traffic immediately after the attack for an extensive investigation.

A woman who declined to be named working at the Elizabeth Ross Hair and Beauty Salon located near the scene of the attack said the deceased was a Turkish man.

Another witness, who also refused to be named, working for the same beauty salon said she came out of the salon after the incident and saw a woman weeping beside the victim. She said the police were quick to arrive at the scene.

Other eyewitness working in the same neighborhood said they heard three gunshots and saw a person lying on the ground.

Fatal shootings like Wednesday's are not uncommon in London. Aaron McKoy was killed in an armed attack close to an estate in Holborn on Jan. 1. Wednesday's attack is the second armed attack in London since the beginning of the year.
