Turkish Deputy PM Ali Babacan has said Turkey would not have permitted the EU to come to this point of crisis if it were an EU member during. He was speaking on a TV program in the town of Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday.
Babacan said the most important item on the agenda at the Davos meeting, an annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, was the economic crisis in Europe. “Things in Europe are getting tougher and the problems are getting bigger. There is an urgent need for solutions to Europe’s problems. This issue is on the top of our agenda in Davos,” Babacan stressed. Babacan also stated that participants in the Davos meetings often mention Turkey and the rational steps being taken in the country. “Such positive remarks for Turkey please us a lot,” Babacan noted. Touching on an Armenian bill recently adopted in the French Senate, Babacan said they were closely watching the process. “If the bill becomes law and all means to stop it turn out to be ineffective, we will surely take further action,” Babacan said.
