Abbas, İhsanoğlu agree to mobilize support for Palestinian statehood

Meeting with Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Professor Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu in his residence in the Jordanian capital of Amman on Jan. 24, the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas addressed the developments in the Palestinian cause and the efforts being made by the two parties to mobilize support for the recognition of the Palestinian State in the United Nations.

In the beginning of the meeting the secretary-general was briefed on the results of the Palestinian president’s recent tour of Europe aimed at mobilizing support for the recognition of the Palestinian State. Additionally, President Abbas illuminated the Palestinian position on the current stalemate in the peace process in the meeting with İhsanoğlu.Abbas stated that the Palestinians regard Jan. 26 as decisive date after which they will internally assess their options. Additionally, there also will be a meeting with the Arab follow-up committee on Feb. 4 to address the situation.
