Police seized nearly 20 kilograms of TNT after raiding the basement of an apartment building in Ankara on Tuesday.
After receiving a tip-off, teams from the Ankara Police Department's Counterterrorism Unit launched the operation to seize the explosives, which had been hidden in the basement of an apartment in Ankara's Elvankent district.
Apartment residents have been interrogated and officers are searching for possible links with terrorist organizations, particularly the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
During the investigation, police discovered the part of the basement in which the explosives were found was used by a pilot serving in the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), the former tenant of a currently empty apartment. The explosives were first noticed by the owner of the flat, who called the police after discovering them in the basement.
The police have launched an extensive investigation and are now working to identify the TSK pilot. The explosives have been sent to a laboratory, where they will be checked for fingerprints.
