Edu Dracena and Elano Blumer played for different İstanbul clubs at different times, but their stay in Turkey has led to a common end: their next destination, as both of them left İstanbul for one of the most celebrated Brazilian clubs, Santos F. C.

Together, they were crucial to the team’s efforts on its road to the South American 2011 title in the final against Penarol. Dracena wore Fenerbahçe’s colors between 2006 and 2009 and was part of the squad that achieved the best results ever by a Turkish team in the UEFA Champions League in the quarterfinals. He could celebrate having played in the Turkish Super League in 2007 under Brazilian coach Zico.

After returning to Brazil, he was named Santos F.C. captain and was responsible for winning four trophies: two Sao Paulo State Championships (2010 and 2011), a Brazilian Cup (2010) and the already mentioned South American title, the Libertadores Cup (2011). At times he is criticized for not being a top defender, but he has always been a decisive factor for Santos and has scored important goals in Brazilian Cup finals in 2010 and in the Libertadores Cup semifinals last year.

Dracena is also respected by Cruzeiro’s supporters. He had a long and successful run on Belo Horizonte’s team between 2003 and 2006. The defender left the Yellow Canaries shortly after Elano signed with its greatest rival, Galatasaray. The midfielder left a bad season with Manchester City but played well on the Brazilian national team. In one season wearing the Lions’ No. 9 jersey, Elano played 29 games and scored only two goals. Expectations are usually higher for a player of his caliber.

While a Galatasaray player he was called to represent his country during the World Cup and scored two important goals in the first two matches, but an injury in the second round didn’t allow him to play further in the tournament.

Returning to Santos F. C., in November 2010 meant returning to the team that had made him famous. The crowds warmly welcomed the transfer, and he played well in the first half of the 2011 season, with the Brazilian season starting in January.

However, his performance declined abruptly after Brazil’s failure in Copa America. Brazil was eliminated in the penalty shootout against Paraguay, and Elano’s kick was awful, high over the bar.

In the final of the 2011 FIFA Club World Cup, Elano was put on the bench in the match against Barcelona after being in the starting lineup in the semifinal against Japan’s Kashiwa Reysol. He entered the match as a replacement for the injured Danilo Luiz da Silva in the 31st minute but couldn’t help Santos F. C. overcome the 2-0 deficit. Barcelona easily won by 4-0.
