However, Trabzonspor goal-machine Burak Yılmaz scoring a brace in the 18th and 93rd minutes was equally important because it increased the striker’s goal tally to 21 after 20 matches, meaning a new record for Burak.
The other players on the score sheet at Avni Aker on Sunday were 22-year-old Brazilian striker Paulo Henrique Carneiro Filho (62nd) and midfielder Olcan Adın (83rd), acquired just recently from Gaziantepspor.
Burak, with 19 goals in 34 matches, was the runner-up in the goal king race last season. Fenerbahçe’s Alex de Souza, who scored 28, was the top scorer. What makes this season spectacular for Burak is that his 2010-11 record of 19 goals has already been broken after 20 games.
The Black Sea Storm, as Trabzonspor is popularly called, has scored a total of 32 goals so far this season -- 21 of them by Burak alone and 11 by all the other players on the team. And with 14 matches still to go, this tall striker will score many more goals before the season’s final whistle is blown.
Sunday’s result also means the Storm has won four matches in a row. Trabzonspor now is the undisputed Black Sea king, having beaten newcomer Orduspor 4-1 in week 17 and almost repeated the exact same feat against Samsun on Sunday. And Trabzonspor coach Şenol Güneş, without the slightest doubt, was laughing all the way home on Sunday. Okan Udo Bassey İstanbul
