Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev is expected to arrive in Turkey today for his first visit abroad since he took office over a month ago and will engage extensively with Turkish officials, including President Abdullah Gül, throughout his four-day stay in the country.
Atambayev is expected to discuss with Turkey bilateral relations and current regional and international developments, while Turkish officials are expected to reaffirm their support for Kyrgyzstan in its democratic reform process. Atambayev also plans to address the General Assembly of the Turkish Parliament during his stay in Ankara and to receive an honorary Ph.D. from Ankara's prominent Bilkent University.
The Kyrgyz leader assumed the presidency on Dec. 1, 2011 in a ceremony also attended by his Turkish counterpart, Gül.
