A recent poll by Zogby International, a multinational market research and public opinion firm, has revealed that 43 percent of Iraqis hold a positive perception of Turkey, and 48 percent say their perception of the country is on the negative side. The poll aimed to assess Iraqi opinions of the world after the US intervention in the country, the Anatolia news agency reported on Tuesday.
Results of the poll indicate that Iraqis have the most favorable opinion toward the United Arab Emirates, while their least favorable perception is towards the US. The poll also reveals that Kurdish Iraqis hold the least favorable opinion of Turkey, with an astounding 81 percent expressing a negative view of Turkey, while 53 percent of Shiite Iraqis say they view Turkey in a positive light. Among Sunnis, 47 percent said they had a negative attitude towards Turkey, while 40 percent said the opposite.
Iraqis expressed little faith in another country to contribute positively to their economy and security after the US pullout, although Jordan received the largest number of positive replies with 44 percent, followed by Turkey with 38 percent. Sixty-seven percent of Iraqis said Iran would have a negative effect on Iraq.
