Kardeş Türküler, Gevende, Grup Yorum to sing for Van

12 December 2011 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
Popular ethnic music ensemble Kardeş Türküler is joining forces with two other well-known Turkish bands, Grup Yorum and Gevende, for an upcoming concert next weekend at the Bostancı Show Center in İstanbul in a demonstration of support for the victims of the Van earthquakes.

Joined by Gevende, a popular psychedelic folk group, and Grup Yorum, a band known for its political songwriting, Kardeş Türküler will take to the stage on the evening of Dec. 25 for the concert, the proceeds of which will contribute to earthquake relief in Van.

This is the second charity concert that Kardeş Türküler has dedicated to earthquake relief efforts in Van. The band, joined onstage by the famous percussionist/composer Arto Tunçboyacıyan and Armenian oud master Ara Dinkjian, performed a fundraiser for Van in New York City on Nov. 13.

The Dec. 25 concert, whose slogan is “We will not abandon Van!,” is the latest in a line of gigs aimed at contributing to Van quake relief efforts. At the end of October, shortly after Van was hit by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake, 40 acts from the Turkish rock music scene took to İstanbul’s Maçka Küçükçiftlik Park open-air concert area for a charity concert “Van İçin Rock” (Rock for Van). Tickets for the Dec. 25 concert are available for TL 25 at biletix.com.
