30 October 2011 / TODAY'S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
A number of Turkish ministers are taking part in the annual conference of the American Turkish Council (ATC), which began on Sunday in Washington and will continue until Nov. 2, according to an Anatolia news agency report.

The ATC, whose members include top US and Turkish companies that conduct business in both countries, aims to bolster US-Turkish political and economic relations. Some of the ATC's major members include top US defense companies.

Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, Defense Minister İsmet Yılmaz, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey will be the keynote speakers at this year's conference. The theme of this 30th Annual Conference is "Honoring the Past, Building for the Future."

The conference will focus on strong commerce and trade between the two allies as well as procurement and Turkey's recent democratic reform of its military.
