A group of drug dealers who were being tracked by the police for six months was planning to transport the drugs from Iran to Europe. The refrigerated truck had departed from Istanbul for Iran to pick up the heroin three days ago. When the truck returned to Istanbul on Monday, Erdoğan D., the driver of the truck, was caught and arrested while he was meeting with İkram A. and Abdullah A., who were to distribute the heroin in Europe. Kemal Ö. And Halil Ö., who allegedly prepared the packages of heroin, were also arrested in a simultaneous operation.
Upon searching the truck, the police found 124,500 kilograms of heroin packed in 241 pressed packages. TL 1,900 and 3,869 euros were found on the suspects; the money is believed to have originated from drug trafficking. The suspects were referred to court following interrogation by police. The police have learned that this case is related to an operation in June in Maltepe in which 97 kilograms of heroin were seized.
