Senior leader of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) Murat Karayılan has said the PKK does not “negatively” approach the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party's (BDP) plans to end its parliamentary boycott and join Parliament.

According to the Cihan news agency, Karayılan on Monday told a pro-PKK website that whether the BDP ends the boycott or not is up to the party's deputies, while praising the party's initial decision to boycott Parliament. “They adopted the necessary stance in the face of an unfair political understanding, so they can adopt a different approach from now on. Walking towards your goal with different and effective tactics is the art of politics. However, the style and practices of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government make entering Parliament very difficult,” Karayılan said.

The PKK leader criticized a recent major operation into the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK), an umbrella political organization of the PKK, which resulted in the detention of dozens of people, including four BDP deputies.

The BDP deputies have refused to take their oaths and join in parliamentary proceedings in protest of the imprisonment of six of the party's deputies, who are currently under arrest as part of the KCK trial. Thirty-six independent deputies supported by the pro-Kurdish BDP were elected in the June 12 elections. The BDP made the decision to boycott Parliament after the Supreme Election Board (YSK) stripped Hatip Dicle, one of the six jailed BDP deputies, of his mandate over a prior terrorism-related conviction after the June 12 vote.
