PKK kills passenger kidnapped at Şırnak roadblock

20 September 2011 / TODAY'S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
Members of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) who blocked a road and set up an ID checkpoint in Eruh, in the southeastern province of Siirt, killed a man along the highway to Şırnak on Monday, reports from the region have said.

A group of PKK terrorists were randomly stopping vehicles along the Eruh-Şırnak highway on Monday evening when they forced one man, Abdullah Öztürk, who was reportedly traveling to Şırnak with his nephews and uncle, out of his vehicle at gunpoint. The terrorists let the other cars they had stopped at the roadblock pass before fleeing the scene, taking Öztürk with them.

Gendarmerie teams were deployed to what was the PKK's temporary checkpoint along the highway shortly after drivers notified the authorities. Öztürk's body was found during a search of the surrounding region.

Also on Monday, terrorists who opened harassing fire on military outposts in Çukurca, a district in Hakkari, were forced out of the territory during a military operation. No deaths or injuries were reported in the clash.
