Kazykhanov is scheduled to arrive on Wednesday in İstanbul to join the OIC session to discuss the effects of the persistent famine that is affecting more than 3 million people in Somalia, Kazakh Foreign Ministry spokesperson Askar Abdrakhmanov announced in Astana on Monday.
Kazakhstan currently holds the rotating presidency of the OIC.
The visit will be the foreign minister's second in two weeks to Turkey following his first official visit to the country on Aug. 3. Kazykhanov had signed two deals with Turkish officials aiming at better diplomatic and cultural ties on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, with Turkey being the first nation to recognize Kazakh independence in 1991. The Kazakh minister had also held talks with Turkish officials on Syria in the context of the Arab Spring and on the need to strengthen the strategic relations between the Kazakh and Turkish nations.
The OIC meeting called by Turkey is set to convene on Wednesday to discuss ways for the 57 OIC member countries to help Africans suffering from the worst famine and drought in the last 60 years of the continent's history.
