Kobe Bryant gives green light to Turkey

1 August 2011 / TODAY'S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
NBA superstar Kobe Bryant has said he might consider playing in Turkey or another country outside the US during a currently ongoing NBA lockout.

Speaking to reporters at a Turkish Airlines (THY) event in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, Bryant said Beşiktaş had previously contacted him but that he has not had transfer talks with the İstanbul club recently. The star shooting guard said he has been thinking about various offers, adding that he has no reservations about playing in countries like Turkey or Italy. The 32-year-old stated that playing outside the NBA can be exciting.

Meanwhile, the US media reported that Bryant is likely to play in the Chinese league and that the star basketball player is demanding $1.5 million per month for his transfer. Beşiktaş coach Ergin Ataman said his club presented Bryant with an official offer and that the club's officials will gather with the player's agents this week.
