“We consider Turkey a pillar of stability in the region,” Bakhit said at a joint press conference in İstanbul with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held on Saturday after a private session the two leaders had earlier. “Relations between Turkey and Jordan have always been very strong and Prime Minister Erdoğan is a friend to the king of Jordan and the Jordanian people,” Bakhit said, stressing his country’s high opinion of Turkey as a mediating force for peace in the region. “We see that the Palestinian issue lies at the bottom of the problems in the region and all other crises are related to that,” the Jordanian prime minister was quoted as saying. “We will support our brothers in Palestine, just like we always have,” he remarked, adding that Jordan and Turkey saw eye-to-eye on the resolution of the Palestinian conflict via the international recognition of the country.
The leaders also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which aims to help Jordan benefit from Turkey’s experience in the construction field.
Bakhit also paid a visit to Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu with Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh in İstanbul on the same day. They discussed bilateral economic relations, the situations in Iraq, Syria, the Gulf and North Africa, as well as developments in Palestine and its bid for United Nations membership.
