Wednesday traffic accidents turn deadly in Turkey, killing 13, injuring 59

At least 13 died and 59 were injured in a series of deadly traffic accidents across Turkey on Wednesday.

The deadliest accident was in Sakarya, when a pile-up killed four, including two children, and injured six others.

In Eskişehir, a bus carrying passengers to Sakarıkaracaören village drove into a ditch after its brakes failed, leaving two dead and 15 injured. Two of the wounded passengers remain in critical condition.

In Mersin, a service van hit a car and then crashed into a tea house, killing two and injuring three others.

In Aydın, the driver of a truck, Zeki Aktaş (26), burned to death after his truck drove into a ditch in Çine district and caught on fire. Aktaş’s body was taken to İzmir Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) for an autopsy.

In Ümraniye, a truck driven by a man identified as Köksal K. (31) hit the vehichle Şerif Tarakçı (71) and his daughter Canan Tarakçı (35) were in. Şerif Tarakçı died at the scene. A public prosecutor and police have started an investigation into the accident; Şerif Tarakçı’s body was brought to the İstanbul ATK for an autopsy. Canan Tarakçı, who was seriously injured, was taken to Ümraniye Teaching and Research Hospital.

In the Ereğli district of Zonguldak, three were injured in a pile-up crash.

In Karabük, two vehicles, which were being used for work on a railway tunnel, collided, leaving one dead and seven injured. Ali Günaydın (51) died, while Avni Özmen, Ali Şimşek, Hasan Topçakıl, Hilmi Şahin, Sunay Belen, Hüseyin Akay and Ekrem Aktaş were injured. Topçakıl, who was taken to Karabük State Hospital, was reported to be in a life-threatening medical condition.

In another accident, 15 were injured in a traffic accident on the Ankara-Konya highway.

In Serik district of Antalya, a car driven by Süleyman Buran (29) went off the road as he was speeding and driving drunk. Mehmet Uysal (30), a passenger, died at the scene, while the injured driver and Niyazi Yılmaz (38), another passenger, were taken to Serik State Hospital.

A tractor flipped over in the Suşehir district of Sivas province, killing the driver, Mehmet Özcan (51).

In Bursa’s Karacabey district, a car driven by Okan Ordu (32) drove into a ditch, leaving five injured. Driver Okan Ordu (32) and passengers Serdar Tat (32), Asım Yılmaz (53), Ufuk Sarıal (35) and Fuat Tuna were wounded as a result of the accident. The wounded were taken to Bursa’s Şevket Yılmaz Teaching and Research Hospital and Uludağ Unuiversity Hospital. Sarıal and Yılmaz remain in critical condition.

Two were injured in Ardahan when a tractor and a truck crashed into each other. Zekeriya Işık, who was driving the tractor, and Nihat Can Zeren were wounded during the accident and taken to Ardahan State Hospital.
